I tried for Magdalis rufa at Brooklands dipped, but beat Platynaspis luteorubra from a pine tree! Only ever seen it on ground near Lasius niger nests before! Serious lack of quarantining of the trees here, numerous new beetle species, heaps of the big jumping spider Macoroeris nidicolens.

I found a pretty picture winged psyllid? years ago but it’s disappeared in the travesty that is the backlog in my collection.  Was sure it was new for Britain, but not seen another : (             There must be other new stuff here!

Great local lifer today 7.8 Anax parthenope on Basingstoke Canal at Pirbright scrapping with Emperor and Golden ringed!

Carex cespitosa (finally) in Herts on 2.8

Baneberry at long last at Malham Cove on 24.7 (and Aceria thomsoni on Thyme!)

15.7 early start to avoid frying in Docklands, swept Pseudostyphylus pillumus, and had lots Patience Docks not sure how I missed these in the past!! same site on 2.8 yielded the fly Campiglossa loewiana, and Shrubby Scorpion-Vetch! and a Robin singing his Autumn song!!! They get earlier!!

Went for Little Bitterns at Ham Wall (10.7)and scored with good flight views of male and female (twice each), thence to Brean Down and got Macroplax preyssleri, mainly nymphs but 2 adults, its tiny and looks like a Taphropeltus!. I thought Sciocoris might be interesting out that way but it’s well known from Zumerzet.

Dipped Large Blue but had Agromyza lithospermi mines at Collard Hill and Cheddar Gorge added 4 plants on sunday and  2.7 had Crested Cow-Wheat in hundreds at Duddenhoe End.

Not new but Dasytes plumbeus was also extremely abundant.

It has taken me the past two winters to hack in all my records. Still keep unearthing stuff, including a specimen of the scarce moth Apomyelois bistriatella from Surrey heathland in 1997!, and thanks to Roy Anderson detting a photo, just added greenhouse slug Lehmannia valentiana from waste ground beside the Excel Centre in 2011!! Major Bogey beat today (7.6.) MOONWORT x 30 plus at Blackbushe, I had hoped it would be my 1800th vascular but that honour went to large straggling plant of Eccremocarpus scaber (Chilean Glory-Vine), growing out of gutter high up on collapsed roof of old stable block at Dropmore House, very clearly naturalised! 15.6 Yellow-flowered Strawberry a nice surprise by Basingstoke canal I failed twice at Easton churchyard for it!

I have seen 517 of the birds of the British List somewhere in the world, but with only 369 in UK I am no serious bird-twitcher! For more on the crazy world of pan-species listing check out the new BRC pan species website www.brc.ac.uk/psl

My bogey gaps include , any sea-spiders, more cetaceans, and Pine Marten! As stated in the Daily Telegraph article, Dave Gibbs has a major grip-off on me with Ghost Orchid!
Things that are beginning to annoy include Lomechusoides strumosa a weird rove-beetle which lives in slave making ant nests. I have lost count of how many nests I have searched and although I get Dinarda dentata virtually on demand, I have yet to score with L. strumosa!
