Recently at a Buckingshamshire parkland site, I came a cross a queen hornet making a nest under a roofing felt square used for reptile monitoring. Given scarcity of hornets in recent years this seemed an odd nesting site, however Scotty Dodd found another nest under a felt in Surrey in the same week!
